Maldives form first Professional Speakers Association

Maldives Professional Speakers Association (MPSA) held its inaugural meeting and launch ceremony on Sunday, October 30.

The ceremony held at Izzudeen School hall, was honored by Former President of Civil Service Commission Dr. Ali Shameem, along with Former President of Indian Professional Speakers Association and Digital Professor Kiruba Shankar.

The launch event saw attendance of to 50 participants, while during the inauguration the MPSA Executive Committee for the term 2022 to 2024 was elected. The voting took place in accordance with MPSA guidelines.

The first Executive Committee of MPSA include;

– Iyaz Waheed – President

– Hussain Afeef – Vice President, Growth and Membership Affairs

– Masood Ali – Vice President, Public Relations

– Adam Naseer – General Secretary

– Maeesha Asif – Treasurer

– Hawwa Leesha – Executive Committee Member

– Aminath Irasha – Executive Committee Member

– Mohamed Nasih – Executive Committee Member

At the ceremony, MPSA founders spoke about the aspiration behind the association’s formation.

“Speaking professionally is a niche skill, and there is a great market and opportunity available; we aim to establish a platform in which Maldivians can understand what it takes to build a Professional Speaking Career and guide them through,” said Iyaz Waheed, founder and president of MPSA’s first Executive Committee.

Other members of MPSA, highlighted the importance of having such platforms while discussing on the roles of professional bodies in the development of human capital and various essential skills, including public speaking across the Maldives.

According to the association, its purposes include development of a platform to grow professional speakers, connect with international audiences as well as partner with international speaking associations and federations to facilitate opportunities for local speakers and other interested communities. Moreover, MPSA will host monthly virtual and in-person events for its members, while it is set to host its first Professional Conference in 2023, slated for September.
